We build automation. Here is what we see from inside the projects. The tasks that go first are the ones nobody fights for: retyping, reconciling, first-draft writing, reading documents to route them, answering the same forty questions. The jobs that get cut are rarely cut by AI directly; they are cut by a manager who now needs three people for what took five, in a company that was already under pressure.
And the flipside is just as real: every automation project we ship creates two or three roles nobody had budgeted, people who own the system, tune it, and handle what it escalates. Those roles pay better than the tasks they replaced. The move is to be the person who runs the machine, and in South Africa right now that skill is scarce enough to command a premium.
